DAY 1: This is the beginning of not being a student. I handed in my dissertation today, two copies each with a CD appendix containing all the extras: executive summary, project management report, supervision log sheets, ethics clearance forms. I'm laughing though because someone else will have to read it.
Anyway, job 'interview' at Blackwell yesterday. Most informal and generally questions that seemed irrelevant to me. I imagine that people who manage other people have subtle ways of extracting information about those they may be hiring. The job is likely part time so the chances are I will have to find something else to supplement it. I have no idea whether I was a favourable candidate.
Elsewhere the job hunt continues, I am applying for various health and social care positions and have also sent off to be a Community Support Officer. We are editing Impact and staying in the office until 11 every night. I have my first Refugee Awareness session on the 2oth of Sept. This is a charity I volunteer for and which aims to make life easier for refugees and asylum seekers by helping them with their claims and raising awareness in the community amongst professional groups who are likely to work with them. We are presenting to a group of nurses during an all day conference at the Queen's Medical Centre. That ought to be jolly.
So what I would like is people to post comments here about how they think this whole year off thing is going? Are you having one as well? Why? What do you want to do when you get into career work proper? Have you got any ideas for me that I don't mention? I want to hear from you...
